Photosmith version 3.1 is now available in the iOS App Store for iPad. The companion plugin for Lightroom is also available, but updating requires a little extra effort this time around. We made a quick one minute video showing how to properly update the Photosmith plugin for Lightroom:
Please note that the new Photosmith plugin requires Lightroom 4 or newer.
As we previously mentioned, the big updates this time around are native camera raw rendering and a vastly improved Lightroom sync dashboard. There’s also more bug fixes than we care to bore you with… but probably will in a future blog post. 
Also, as promised, we just released our comprehensive User Guide – over 200 pages of everything you ever wanted to know about Photosmith (but were afraid to ask). This PDF is perfect for downloading and keeping handy for offline reference, perhaps stored in your iBooks app on your iPad. However, be aware that like our Knowledge Base documents (from which the User Guide is based), it’s a work in progress.
Photosmith version 3.1 app for iPad and Lightroom plugin are free updates for existing users. New users can scoop up the app for $19.99 USD (or equivalent local currency).

Unfortunately, the update does NOT work. After reloading the new Version in LR, the message “Could not update CollisionDialog.lua”
Try restarting Lightroom – then run through the update process again. *Something* on your computer is preventing that specific file, which is contained within the Photosmith plugin package, from being updated. A Lightroom restart can fix a lot of things.
If that doesn’t work, sync all User Collections to get all your metadata into Lightroom, then remove the Photosmith Lightroom plugin following this guide: http://support.photosmithapp.com/knowledgebase/articles/219583
Then redownload and install the plugin as if it’s a fresh install: http://www.photosmithapp.com/ind/plugin/
Try running Lightroom as administrator, then follow the update instructions from the video again. This worked for me.

Do NOT update if you are still using Lightroom 3.5!
The new Plugin is only for Lightroom 4 and newer.
Plus the update of the app did crash my catalogue on the iPad.
To conclude: pictures on iPad lost, no way of syncronizing anymore…

The previous version of our Lightroom plugin (v3.0.2) may be downloaded from: http://www.photosmithapp.com/plugin/lightroom/prod_3.0.2.0/Photosmith.lrplugin.zip However, we haven’t throughly tested Photosmith for iPad version 3.1 with the older Lightroom plugin 3.0.2 – use at your own risk.
We’ve heard from only three users (out of many thousands) where the database update in to Photosmith 3.1 didn’t work as expected – and like you, we’re working with them via our User Support website at http://support.photosmithapp.com . Thanks for letting us know about the issue when updating the app!
